Moderate reviews

All user-generated content (UGC) undergoes a rigorous process of automated and human moderation.

  • Bazaarvoice recommends accepting the moderation codes applied by our expert moderation team.
  • However, you have the flexibility to self-moderate and overwrite codes when necessary.

To ensure an accurate moderation decision, always perform the following checks:

Compliance & Authenticity: When manually approving or rejecting content, your decisions must reflect our Bazaarvoice Authenticity Standards  . Overwriting codes should be done sparingly to maintain consumer confidence and site integrity.

Understanding Bazaarvoice moderation codes

Moderation codes are labels that indicate the specific reason for a content decision.

  • Automatic labeling: System-rejected content automatically receives at least one moderation code explaining the decision.
  • Manual labeling: You can manually update moderation codes using your Manage Content solution.
  • Audit history: Select the moderation history tab to track moderation actions applied using the Manage Content solution.

How to approve or reject reviews

You can manage the moderation status of a review from either the List View or the Detail View.

Caution

Option 1: In the List View (quick action)

Update a review's status directly from the main list view page. This is ideal for high-volume moderation, such as quickly clearing out obvious spam or fake reviews.

  1. Locate the review and select Moderation details.
  2. In the modal that appears, select either Approved or Rejected.
  3. (Optional) Select the relevant Moderation codes to provide a reason for your decision. You can add or update moderation codes without having to update the moderation status.

Understanding moderation status labels

Every review is assigned one of the following statuses:

Label
Description
Approved label
Content is currently displayed on your site and is eligible for syndication to partners.
Rejected label

Either the Bazaarvoice moderation process has rejected the review, or it's been rejected in Ratings & Reviews by a member of your moderation team.

Pending status label

The review is still in the queue and has not yet been moderated. Moderation history details will not be available yet either.

Expired status label

The review was previously approved but has been removed at your request. To request the Expired status be applied to a review, you need to contact support.
