Insights FAQs

Insights basics

Data availability

What do I do if I can't access the Insights app?

Contact your Client Success Manager or Bazaarvoice support i f the Insights app doesn't appear in the Portal menu.

Why is there no data available?

There are many reasons why data may be empty. Most are related to your implementation, for example, Conversion insights rely on a BV Pixel implementation. If no data is available in the Insights app, make sure your technical integration is healthy. The data you pass to Bazaarvoice determines the metrics shown in the app. Additionally, consumer sentiment insights need a minimum of 10 reviews before data can be generated.

How long does it take for data to appear in the Insights app?

It takes up to 48 hours before raw data and metrics are available in Insights. For example, if a review is moderated, the data may not be available in our reporting systems for 24 hours. It can take another 24 hours before aggregated metrics can be built on that data.

Why does Insights show different numbers to Manage Content for the same dates?

Insights processes data in batches and it reflects approved reviews as of the last batch run, while Manage Content updates in near real-time. For example, a review approved after the last Insights refresh will show in Manage Content but not yet in Insights.

Data sources

Does Insights display data collected using the Conversations API?

Yes. Insights shows data collected using the Conversations API as long as you're passing events from all pages with UGC on your site to Bazaarvoice. You can use BV Pixel to send events like page views and transactions to Bazaarvoice.

Does the Insights app display data about non-English reviews?

Yes. Insights displays performance and consumer sentiment metrics for non-English reviews, such as review rejection rate, collection volume, review response, products with high page traffic but low review count, question response, and more. However, sentiment analysis does not include non-English review data.

What are benchmarks and where does Bazaarvoice get this data?

Industry Benchmarks let you compare your UGC (user-generated content) performance against the median or best-in-class average for your industry, based on anonymized data aggregated across the Bazaarvoice Network. The benchmark values displayed are based on the industry vertical associated with your account. This is also known as a business category or industry sector.

Benchmark data refreshes quarterly, reflecting the most recently completed quarter. We generate these benchmarks by aggregating the performance data across the Bazaarvoice Network.

Why don't I see a benchmark for my product or industry?
    • Not enough participating clients yet. A minimum number of clients in an industry vertical must opt in and contribute data before Bazaarvoice can produce an aggregated, anonymized, and statistically reliable benchmark. Some smaller or more niche verticals may not yet have enough participants.
    • Your account isn't opted in to benchmarking. Participation in benchmarks is separate from having Insights access. When joining Bazaarvoice, you must have granted Bazaarvoice permission to use your data for analytics purposes.
    • Recently added or updated account. If your instance or industry classification was recently added or changed, it can take a short time to be reflected in your benchmark data.

How are my industry benchmarks determined?

Your benchmarks are based on the industry vertical associated with your account. This is also known as a business category or industry sector. If you believe the vertical shown doesn't match your business, contact support so it can be reviewed and corrected.

Why can I no longer customize my Insights dashboards in Reports?

In October 2026, we changed the functionality for the Customize in Reports button from some Insights dashboards to provide a better experience by using our Insights export options or by going to the Custom Reports app and using our prebuilt templates.

    Product catalog

How important is my product catalog for generating insights?

Your product catalog provides essential data about your brands, product categories, and the products that you offer. Providing a healthy product catalog feed is critical for generating valuable metrics and reports.

Which product catalog data fields are the most important?

A high-quality product catalog feed must contain the following key fields: category, product name, product ID, image URL, and product URL.

    Conversion Insights FAQs

Can Insights show conversion data from a destination where my site’s reviews are syndicated to?

No. The Conversion dashboard tracks performance on your own site only, not on syndicated destinations. The Network and Coverage dashboards provide some visibility into syndication performance but not conversion-level data.

    How is display engagement tracked?

A tracking pixel captures activity on the pages of your site on which it has been implemented. For more information about how BV Pixel captures visitor transactions and behaviors, refer to BV Pixel.

What is the difference between active and passive engagement?

Actively engaged and Passively engaged are subsets of the Engaged metric. A visitor is considered passively engaged when they view Bazaarvoice content, but don't engage with any functionality. A visitor is considered actively engaged when they interact with Bazaarvoice content. Interaction types include sorting, filtering, paginating, selecting, hovering, or highlighting.

What does it mean when conversion rate or goal completion is over 100%?

A conversion or completion rate above 100% indicates that your visitors placed multiple orders or completed multiple goals in a single session.

Why is my Conversion dashboard empty?

There are many reasons why data may be empty. Most are related to your BV Pixel implementation. If no data is available in the Insights app, make sure your technical integration is healthy. If you set up your BV Pixel implementation less than one month ago, please allow one full month for the data to populate.

Why are RPV, AOV, and Conversion rate missing from the dashboards?

These metrics require a Transaction event tag in your BV Pixel implementation. If your implementation is only configured for the Conversion event tag, only Behavioral dashboards display. You can also try adjusting your filters as the data may be limited based on your Category filter selection.

What kind of user is considered as a Visitor for Conversion insights?

A user that visits any page on your site that displays Bazaarvoice content and is configured to capture visitor transactions using the BV Pixel transaction event tag.

Each time a user visits your site, they are considered a new visitor. For example, if a user visited your site four times in one month, each visit is considered a visitor.

    Collection Insights FAQs

Why is the Category filter not returning results on the Coverage dashboard?

The Category filter only returns results for categories that have product records. If a category has no products, for example, it's a parent or top-level category with no child categories that have products, it will return zero results.

Why are there differences in my Coverage data compared to other Insights?

The Coverage dashboards calculate reviews differently from others dashboards because they are focused on providing data about the multiple places your reviews can come from. This means that for the Your site view, some metrics may seem higher than they would be on other dashboards because the following metrics include more sources for data:

    • Displayable reviews - For Coverage this includes reviews from native collection, product family reviews, and syndication.
    • Native reviews - For Coverage, native reviews come from your native collection and your product families.
How does Bazaarvoice measure page views for Coverage data?

We use data from your BV Pixel implementation to track page views on pages where you display Bazaarvoice UGC.

Why do product counts differ on the Your site and Network tabs on the Coverage dashboard?

The Your site view counts active products with displayable reviews. The Network view counts any product (active or inactive) that is syndicating reviews to an active product on a Network destination site. The Network tab is dependent on product status on the Network destination instance, while the Your site tab refers to active products in your catalog.

Why are the Outbound syndication insights showing extreme percentage lifts?

    This is expected behavior because:

    • The dashboard uses an all-time view (from first syndication date to now), not a rolling 12-month window like the Collection dashboard. Comparing them directly will produce very different numbers.
    • A high percentage lift simply reflects a low baseline. If your site had very few syndicated reviews in the comparison period and you have since grown your Network significantly, a 100%+ lift is valid.
What collection sources are in the Other category?

Other sources include campaigns with custom IDs and anything not defined as a source of native content.

Why is there a difference in the figures displayed in Manage Content and Collection insights?

Manage Content does not include family reviews, whereas Collection insights does. Another cause can be products in your catalog that are not associated with a brand won’t be counted in Manage Content but Insights will still count these reviews.

Do the values on the Collection dashboard include each instance of a review shared across members of a product family?

No. A review shared across a product family counts as one review when calculating the collection metrics.

How is the percentage of rejected reviews calculated?

Reviews rejected is the number of rejected reviews divided by the total number of received reviews. The total number of received reviews may include a small number of test reviews, duplicate reviews, and reviews removed at a review submitter's request. These reviews do not significantly impact the Reviews rejected calculation.

    Network Insights FAQs

Can I add a competitor to Network Insights?

If competitors are missing or inaccurate from the Competitor drop-down list, contact Bazaarvoice support to open a support ticket. Please detail the BV Brand, BV Category, and which competitor you were expecting to appear in the drop-down list.

Why does my brand show up in the Competitor drop-down list?

You may have multiple brands that sell in a single category. For example, you may sell a luxury shampoo brand and a mass-market shampoo brand. Because both brands sell in the ‘Shampoo’ category, they are competitors.

Can I remove a competitor in Network Summary Insights?

No. Named competitors appear in Network Insights based on their BV Category mapping. Ignore a competitor you’re not interested in and select the competitor you want to dive into.

Are named competitors all Bazaarvoice clients?

No. The Competitor drop-down list includes both Bazaarvoice and non-Bazaarvoice client brands. As long as a competitor brand sells at any Bazaarvoice retail site, Insights will have visibility into their data.

How does Insights determine which competitor brands are displayed in the Competitor drop-down list?

Named competitors are brands who sell products in one or more of the same categories as your brand. You can narrow down the list of competitors using the available filters. Insights currently shows the top 25 competitors in each category. Competitors are ranked by the number of products they have in the selected category, from highest to lowest.

How does Insights determine which destination sites are included in the e-commerce Site drop-down list?

This is based on your product catalog feed. If a brand’s feed includes products from the selected BV Brand drop-down list and the BV Category drop-down, that brand’s e-commerce site will be listed.

Why aren't all the retailer and brand sites that sell my products appearing when I select the e-Commerce Site drop-down list?

Contact your Client Success Director or Bazaarvoice support to open a support ticket detailing which e-commerce sites are missing.

Note: There is a threshold. Any BV Brand + e-commerce Site combination with >= five products is included in the insights data and displayed. Any that do NOT meet this threshold are removed from the drop-down list.

Do filters follow through into the exported reports?

You can use filters to narrow down insights displayed in your dashboard. Yes, filtered sentiment insights are carried through to an exported report. However, filtered performance insights data is not carried through into an exported report.

Why are the insights metrics blank when I first land on the Network Insights page?

Network Insights displays comparison metrics. So, if you haven't yet selected anything for comparison, such as a BV Category or Competitor, then insights metrics are not available.

What if the wrong brands are listed in the BV Brand drop-down list?

Contact your Client Success Director or Bazaarvoice support  to open a support ticket detailing which brands need to be investigated and corrected.

Can I update my BV Brand mappings in the future?

Yes. Insights doesn’t expect BV Brand mappings to be perfect. Contact your Client Success Director or Bazaarvoice support   to open a support ticket detailing which brands you need added, updated, or removed.

Does Average Product Rating apply to only my brand products at a selected retail site?

Yes. The Average Product Rating metric refers to the average number of displayable reviews for your brands’ products at a selected retail site.

How is my brand’s total product figure calculated?

Network Insights counts all active product instances assigned to that brand across our network. It does not take into account individual SKUs or unique product IDs. So, if one SKU is sold at 10 retailers, that would be counted as 10 products.

Why is my brand displaying in a BV Category which does not sell my products?

BV Category mapping won't always match every product to a category perfectly. Contact your Client Success Director or Bazaarvoice support t  o open a support ticket detailing which BV Categories your brand belongs to.

Why are Network Summary Insights not appearing for my brand?

Contact your Client Success Director (CSD) or Bazaarvoice support  to open a support ticket detailing which brand you need access to.

How are positive and negative sentiment themes determined?

Bazaarvoice uses natural language processing (NPL) technology to analyze and compare the most common positive and negative themes in approved reviews. The exact sentiment or a specific word such as ‘Quality’ may not be found in the review text; however, Bazaarvoice’s NLP technology reads through every review and analyzes the phrases and synonyms that surround each product sentiment. For example, alternative phrases or synonyms for ‘Quality,’ such as ‘Inferior,’ ‘Superior,’ ‘Very durable,’ or ‘Excellent condition.’

    How are sentiment percentages calculated?

Sentiment percentages take into account ‘native’ reviews only. Native reviews means that even if a brand syndicates reviews to a retailer, those reviews will only be counted once. Sentiment percentages are calculated based on the percent of reviews with positive sentiment (4- and 5-star native reviews) and negative sentiment (1- and 2-star native reviews). The sum of both positive and negative sentiment reviews is divided by the sum of total native reviews.

How is recency factored into the sentiment calculation?

The sentiment calculation is based on the last 1,000 native reviews.

How does Network Insights differ from other Bazaarvoice reports?

Network Insights gives you a much broader picture of how your brand and user-generated content (UGC) program is performing. It counts all active product instances, not unique product IDs or SKUs. Network Insights are agnostic of syndication, which means it pulls in more data than, for example, an outbound syndication report does and is more accurate.

Why do the metrics in Network Insights not match the Outbound Syndication report?

Network Insights are agnostic of syndication, meaning Network Insights pulls in more data than a syndication report does and is more accurate.

    Sentiment Insights FAQs

How are Consumer Sentiment insights calculated?

Bazaarvoice analyzes ratings and reviews with natural language processing to identify consumer sentiment insights. Key words and phrases are recognized and analyzed to discover common themes in consumer sentiment and highlight notable quotes.

Why can't I see all my products in review summaries?

Products will show in review summaries in the Portal when all the following conditions are true:

    • The product is active
    • The product has at least 30 reviews in English
    • The product is in the top 25 of active products (if review summaries are not active for your package)
    • Filters you have set do not exclude the product
How often are the review summaries refreshed?

If you have review summaries enabled, they are refreshed every week. If you do not have them enabled, they are refreshed every three months.

Why are the review summaries unchanged after a refresh?

If you have review summaries enabled, the refresh will update them only when a product summary gets updated, either when the number of reviews changes significantly or when the product's syndication changes.

How do I upgrade to display review summaries?

If review summaries are not active on your package, contact support to upgrade.

    Response Insights FAQs

Where does the data come from?

Response insights data comes from internal Bazaarvoice systems that process your UGC, BV Pixel, and product feed data. Some consumer sentiment data is derived from UGC text and has been processed through natural-language processing (NLP) and sentiment analysis to provide further insights through review highlights.

Do the Response insights include all my questions and answers?

No. Only native questions (questions generated directly from your Questions & Answers program) are included. Questions about your products that originate in a syndication partner’s program are excluded from your insights because they cannot be answered in your own Questions & Answers program.
