Methods to send product catalog data

Use any of the following methods to send your catalog data to Bazaarvoice. While sending, ensure not to include data with personally identifiable information (PII) that is personal and often private to consumers.

Methods
Description
XML feed file (recommended)
Upload an XML file to the Bazaarvoice SFTP server.

Text/CSV feed file

Upload a Text/CSV feed file to the Bazaarvoice SFTP server.
Google product feed
Upload a TSV feed file to the Bazaarvoice SFTP host.
Multiple sources
Provide multiple catalog feeds when your catalog data is sourced in different systems or if combining multiple feeds into a single feed is too difficult. Contact Bazaarvoice support before attempting to provide product catalog data using multiple files.
Product Catalog application
This solution is designed for clients with small product catalogs (approximately 5 MB or less). Provide the feed file in the spreadsheet format (.xlsx). This Portal app shows all the information in your Bazaarvoice product catalog, including data provided by feeds, DCC, and the app itself.

Dynamic Catalog Collection (DCC)
Enables Bazaarvoice to collect and consume product catalog data using JavaScript on your product display pages. When shoppers visit a product display page, the JavaScript event passes catalog data to Bazaarvoice for consumption. DCC supports the collection of both new product catalog data and updates to previously provided catalog data. You can also provide additional data elements using a traditional feed (XML or CSV) file. Bazaarvoice will combine data from both sources.
Note: Importing or updating data using the Product Catalog application will always take precedence and override data updates coming from your XML feed or from Dynamic Catalog Collection (DCC). Refer to Catalog data source priority to learn more.

Feed upload type

Use any of the following ways to send your XML or Text feed file to the Bazaarvoice SFTP server:

  • Only full feeds: You can upload a full periodic catalog feed to Bazaarvoice, including all current data for active products and categories, followed by incremental feeds. Regularly submitting a full feed is not recommended, as it significantly increases your system load, along with network traffic and import time.
  • Incremental feed files: Provide incremental feeds along with periodic full feeds to ensure the fastest updates to your catalog.
    Caution
If you use incremental feeds only and you never provide a full feed to Bazaarvoice, it is possible that catalog data may become out of sync with your source product catalog if an incremental feed upload is missed or fails in any way.
  • Only incremental feeds: If you are only providing incremental feeds, ensure that you include the `removed="true"` attribute. Refer to Control the active set of products for more information about this approach.

    Caution

Define feed upload type

To specify whether your XML feed is full or incremental, set the incremental attribute within the <Feed> element. Refer to Example feed elements for a sample file.
