Following these steps manually is prone to error (for example, forgetting regex matching on the trigger, mistyping variable names). The recommended, most reliable method, is described in detail in the Set up Google Analytics (GA4) and BigQuery article.
(Legacy) Set up GA4 configuration tag
Before you create the Vibe custom event tag:
Make sure you have a GA4 Configuration tag. If you don't have one already, read Google's article to learn how to create one.
Enter the Measurement ID associated with the GA4 property that you plan to connect to Vibe into the GA4 Configuration tag.
(Legacy) Step 1: Create a new custom event tag
In Google Tag Manager, select Tags > New.
Enter a recognizable description (for example, Bazaarvoice Vibe Tag) in the text field at the top of the page.
Select the Tag Configuration box.
Select Google Analytics: GA4 event.
Enter the Measurement ID associated with the GA4 property that you plan to connect to Vibe in the Measurement ID text field.
(Legacy) Step 2: Create custom variables
Select the button to the right of the Event Name text field. Do not change the default text in the Event Name field. It should be {{Event}}.
Select Event.
Select Event Parameters > Add Row.
Enter bvsc_event_data in the Parameter Name text field.
Select the button to the right of the Value text field.
Select the + symbol.
Enter a recognizable description (for example, Bazaarvoice Vibe Variable) in the text field at the top of the page.
Select the Variable Configuration box.
Select Data Layer Variable.
Enter bvsc_event_data in the Data Layer Variable Name text field.
Select Save.
Repeat steps three to eleven to create a second variable. Replace bvsc_event_data with bvsc_event_data_2 for the second variable.
(Legacy) Step 3: Create a custom trigger
Select the Triggering box.
Select the + symbol.
Select the Trigger Configuration box.
Select Custom Event.
Enter a recognizable description (for example, Bazaarvoice Vibe Trigger) in the text field at the top of the page.
Enter bvsc in the Event name text field.
Select the Use regex matching checkbox. (This is a critical step that is often missed).
Select Save.
(Legacy) Step 4: Publish the custom tag
Select Save again.
Once you're back on the Tags page, select Submit.
Enter a recognizable description (for example, Bazaarvoice Vibe GA4 Custom Tag 1) in the Version Name text field.
Select Publish.
