BV Pixel implementation (bv.js)

To begin collecting data, you must integrate the Bazaarvoice loader file (bv.js) into your website. Once you’ve added the loader file bv.js to a page, the event tracking code fires automatically and captures Page views, Impressions, and Feature events.

Pre-requisites

Before starting the implementation, ensure you have the following:

  • Whitelisted domains: If you’re at the Bazaarvoice implementation stage, contact your Bazaarvoice implementation team to request allowlist (sometimes called a "whitelist") updates.
  • Bazaarvoice credentials: If you’ve completed implementation, contact Bazaarvoice support to request changes.
Note
Note: If you’re an API client, follow the instructions in our API documentation to implement BV Pixel. If you're a native app client, follow our Mobile SDK implementation instructions.

BV Pixel tells Bazaarvoice when a consumer converts on your site. There’re two types of BV Pixel tags:

  • Transaction events: Transaction tags collect purchase data from your order confirmation page.
  • Conversion events: Conversion event tags are triggered by coupon downloads, newsletter sign-ups, or product warranty registrations.

Transaction event for e-Commerce sites

  1. Add the BV loader.
  2. Add the transaction event.
  3. (Optional) Add PII parameters to send review requests (formerly post-interaction email or PIE).
  4. Test your implementation.

Conversion event for non-Commerce sites

  1. Add the BV loader.
  2. Add the conversion event.
  3. (Optional) Add PII parameters  to collect information about the consumer.
  4. Test your implementation.

Add the BV loader

The BV loader <bv.js> loads the Bazaarvoice JavaScript library. This library contains event-tracking code that captures consumer activity on your website.

Integration

Add the BV loader code to the head of your page. This ensures the loader is initialized before any subsequent event tags fire.

HTML
<!-- load BV loader -->
<script async src="https://apps.bazaarvoice.com/deployments/<client_name>/<site_ID>/<environment>/<locale>/bv.js"></script>

Deployment

Replace the placeholders in the URL with your account-specific data:

Parameter
Description
client_name Client name provided by Bazaarvoice. Use lowercase letters.
site_ID ID of the deployment zone you want to use.
  • This is set up in the Bazaarvoice configuration. Default deployment zone is 'main_site'.
  • To ensure your have the correct ID, select Site ID icon to the right of the deployment zone on the configuration Site Manager page.
environment Deployment environment where you want to implement BV Pixel.
  • For a production environment, include production in the path.
  • If you're referencing a staging environment, include staging in the path.
locale

Locale used by your BV Pixel implementation. If you're not using US English (en_US), ensure use the correct locale codelocale code.

Examples:

The URLs below are examples based on the Endurance Cycle implementation. When setting up a different implementation, replace endurancecycles and the deployment_zone with appropriate values.

Environment Deployment Zone Example
Staging main_site

Production mobile

Caution
You may have added the BV loader while implementing Bazaarvoice-hosted display or DCC. Do not add it again. It only needs to be added once.

Verification

Once deployed, check your browser console. If the loader fails to initialize:

  1. Verify the environment parameter matches your current domain.
  2. Confirm the domain is listed in your Bazaarvoice Portal whitelist.
