With catalog localization, you can provide a more seamless shopping experience to your international users. Your end users who interact with Bazaarvoice Vibe Commerce features will be able to view product tags in their local language and currency based on the location they are browsing from. Their location is determined using either their IP address or locale filters.
Localization is available for the following Commerce features:
- Galleries: Using locale filters
- Like2Buy: Using IP address
- Showroom: Using IP address
Localization is not supported for Reveal or Adobe Commerce (Magento) self-serve catalogs.
How localization works
Localization is set by using a default catalog (that is set to its own locale, such as en-US), and sending us your accompanying catalogs that have their own specific locale. For specifics, refer to the Localization Requirements section of our developer setup guide.
We link products between catalogs by using a specific identifier (typically the product ID), and check to see if it's identical across your catalogs. If you tag a product from your default catalog that isn't in the localized catalog, we'll return the product from the default catalog on that localized feature. For example, if you have a Like2Buy product that was tagged from your en-US catalog that isn't in your fr-FR catalog, those who have fr-FR set from their IP address will still see and be able to click through to the product, but it will redirect to the en-US website.
However, there is an exception for Galleries. If you're setting an explicit locale via the data-crl8-locale filter, such as "data-crl8-filter=en-GB", then we will only return products if they are present in the localized catalog. If they are not, we will show nothing. To learn more about how to set filters for your Fanreel or Gallery, refer to the Filter your Galleries on-site using data attributes topic.
If multiple locales existing within the IP country (for example, en-CA, fr-CA), then our system will search the accepted languages in order to find a match. Our system will prefer an exact match (matching fr-CA if there is an fr-CA catalog), but will fall back to a country match if an exact match does not exist (en-CA will be used if no fr-CA catalog exists). This means we'll first map to the user's location and then check their browser setting to see which language is the accepted language. This is to ensure that we localize to both their location and specified language.
