Use the Video Optimized layout
The Video Optimized layout is a full-screen experience for mobile and desktop, and provides the following video-first features:
Full screen viewer: allows swiping horizontally between featured products and vertically between videos.
Picture-in-picture playback: videos are minimized so customers can continue browsing while visiting your site.
Auto-play: when a customer visits your site, the first video in the viewport will play automatically.
Auto-scroll: customers can automatically move through videos without having to manually scroll or switch screens.
Shop buttons: use the shop buttons for easy access to each featured product’s PDP.
Portrait carousel layout: videos are displayed in portrait mode, in an interactive carousel block
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the recommended video length? What are the minimum and maximum lengths supported?
While we do not restrict or limit video length, we recommend keeping videos short and engaging, ideally under 60 seconds. This will optimize site loading speed and engagement, and align with social media best practices.
How can I mute or unmute videos?
The layout follows typical video behavior across devices:
Mobile: Videos autoplay with sound off and users can tap the video to enable sound.
Desktop: Videos autoplay on hover and generally muted.
How can I add captions to my videos?
To add captions, select your video to open it and then select the CC toggle. Closed Captions are auto-generated for the video. For embedded videos such as YouTube and TikTok, we use the same captions provided by the platform. We don’t have direct control over these.
Can I select a thumbnail or cover photos directly in the platform or upload a custom image?
Yes, refer to the Custom cover images topic to add or choose a custom cover image for video content in Galleries.
What is the recommended specification for the video?
While we do support all formats, the recommended specification for videos is 9:16 (portrait), optimized for a mobile-first experience which reflects social media.
What type of content sources are supported for this layout?
The layout supports the same content sources as other galleries, namely brand-owned, YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram videos.
If the hover is not appearing, what should I do?
If hover interactions (such as autoplay) aren't working, try the following:
- Check that you're using a supported browser and device.
- Ensure no browser extensions are interfering with video playback.
- Reach out to Bazaarvoice Support for further troubleshooting (the current help article does not contain specific guidance).
